TOMS RIVER, NJ – COVID-19 vaccines are scarce in New Jersey as supply can’t keep up with demand, but getting a vaccine is not completely impossible. Today, the Ocean County Health Department issued a “tips and tricks” memo advising residents on how they can get in the COVID-19 vaccine queue.

The Ocean County Health Department today advised residents to routinely check their website to see if appointments become available. Each day appointments are canceled and new ones open up, the department said. When a person cancels an appointment, they open up a new appointment that day. You better be quick, because the department said those openings don’t last long.
As far as appointments from private vendors, they are all on a waitlist right now. You can visit the following websites to put your name on a waitlist. Many people are opting to put their name on several waiting lists. If you do choose that route, remember to go back and cancel your spot in line after you get your vaccination.

Does that mean I automatically have an appointment for a vaccine with OCHD when I am eligible?A: It’s important to understand that the state and county sites are separate and when you become eligible for the vaccine you will need to visit us at the www.ochd.org website to make an appointment for one of the Ocean County COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics. However, we kindly ask for your patience as we are experiencing a much higher demand than supply of vaccine at the moment._____________Q: What is the number to the NJ Vaccine Call Center?The State’s toll-free vaccination hotline (1-855-568-0545) is available to pre-register individuals, answer questions, provide contact information for sites, look up registrations, and schedule appointments with participating vaccination sites. However, due to limited vaccine supply, appointments continue to be limited.The hotline is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.NOTE: Callers will have to contact vaccination sites directly for support in making appointments for sites that are not using the State’s scheduling system. A: No one will have to pay for the vaccine itself. The COVID-19 vaccine is available without cost sharing barriers. Based on the CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Program Provider Agreement, all providers must vaccinate individuals regardless of whether they have health insurance coverage or what type of coverage they have, and are prohibited from balance billing or otherwise charging vaccine recipients.
