Jackson Memorial High School on 10-Day Remote After 51 Quarantined for COVID-19

Phil Stilton

JACKSON, NJ – Jackson Memorial High School will be halting in-person classroom instruction for the next 10 days.   A letter sent by the Jackson School district notified parents tonight that JMHS is going all remote learning until February 19th.

Dear JMHS Parents/Guardians and Staff,

This letter is to inform you that there have been multiple positive COVID-19 cases reported to us today and in the past few days that have prompted the quarantining of 51 individuals (both students and staff) in our school.

After working with the Ocean County Health Department to analyze the facts and circumstances of these cases, we must move all students at Jackson Memorial High School to ALL REMOTE instruction effective immediately through Feb. 19. We anticipate being able to return to our in-person learning program on Feb. 22.

This move is necessary to ensure the safety of our students and staff and also because of staffing shortages caused by the mandated quarantines. This affects all Jackson Memorial High School extra-curricular and athletic activities including practices and games, which are suspended during this same time period.

This does not affect any other district school.

The district provide d the following information:

THIS MEANS:

  • ALL Jackson Memorial High School STUDENTS, including Vo-Tech students and all Vo-Tech academy students (MATES, PAA, LPS), will remain home and learn remotely beginning Feb. 10 through Feb. 19.
  • Any individual who experiences any symptoms related to COVID is encouraged to contact the school nurse.
  • Our meal pickup schedules for all of our schools including Memorial will continue as scheduled.

FOR IN-PERSON HYBRID MODEL STUDENTS (Group 1 and Group 2):

  • Will stay home and learn remotely by following their classes for that day (e.g. A Day classes or B Day classes). Students will learn as one cohesive class with all Group 1 and Group 2 students joining in the same virtual meetings. Log in to your first period Google Classroom no later than 7:20 a.m.

FOR IN-PERSON STUDENTS IN OUR SELF-CONTAINED 5-DAY PROGRAM:

  • Will remain on their current schedule – but with VIRTUAL meetings every day. Teachers will be in contact with students directly about assignments and how to log in to virtual meetings.

Due to privacy requirements, we will not be releasing any additional information on the identity of the individuals. Any person who was determined by health officials to have been a close contact of these individuals is being notified personally. A close contact is someone who was within 6 feet of a confirmed case of COVID-19 for at least 15 minutes.

For full information on our health and safety protocols and procedures, see our Health and Safety Protocols (Page 20 begins the section on our protocols for notification and contact tracing when a case is reported). Our health and safety protocols also include the cleaning and disinfecting of all exposed areas. The school is also remaining vigilant in the precautions we take to prevent the introduction and spread of viruses and other germs and is cleaning frequently touched surfaces daily.

As always, we appreciate our community’s support and cooperation. You can assist us by remaining vigilant and sensible in your approach to dealing with this health concern. Should you have any questions about this situation, please feel free to contact your school at 732-833-4670.
