Lexington woman survives husband’s botched murder-suicide attempt

LEXINGTON, S.C. – A Lexington County man has died after shooting a woman and turning the gun on himself, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department reported Wednesday.

“Investigators have determined the man abducted the woman from a medical office in Lexington before forcing her to drive to some woods at the end of Adams Terrace Court in Dixiana,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “The woman made her way to a nearby home to ask for help after she was shot.”

The woman, who lives in Lexington, was transported with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Koon. Her medical team said she’s expected to make a full recovery.

The man was transported from the scene before dying at a hospital, according to Koon. The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.

“Although we’re still looking into the nature of their relationship in recent weeks, we know they have been a couple in the past and have a child together,” Koon said. “This was not a random crime.”
