Columbus man shot while playing dice in apartment laundry room with friends

COLUMBUS, OH – On February 14, 2021, at approximately 12:35 a.m., Columbus Police Patrol Officers were dispatched to Mt. Carmel-East Hospital on a walk-in gunshot victim, who had suffered two gunshot wounds, one to his right neck and one to his shoulder area.

Officers spoke with the victim, (Steven Garnes) and he advised that he was playing dice while in an unknown apartment located on Napoleon Ave. near E. Broad St. Mr. Garnes stated that he may have been inside a laundry room located In the basement of the apartments.

Mr. Garnes stated that he was waiting for his turn to toss the dice when an unknown person(s) fired gunshots. Mr. Garnes stated that there were approximately twenty people inside the apartment at the time of the gunshots.

Mr. Garnes stated that after being shot, he fled the apartment and drove himself to the hospital. Mr. Garnes did not want to provide anyInformation as to who he was with at the time of the shooting. Mr. Garnes Is expected to survive his injuries. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene. The shooting is an on-going Investigation.
