As Americans wait for $1,400 checks, some illegal immigrant families get $70,000 in room, board, and legal expenses

As Americans hit hard by a year of joblessness, homelessness and pandemic eagerly await their $1,400 stimulus checks, illegal immigrants who snuck across the U.S. border are getting a $70,000 per person stimulus.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has signed a short-term contract with the non-profit division of Endeavors to provide temporary shelter and processing services for families who have not been expelled and are therefore placed in immigration proceedings for their removal from the United States,” said acting ICE Director Tae D. Johnson. “The $86.9 million contract provides 1,239 beds and other necessary services. The families will receive a comprehensive health assessment that includes COVID-19 testing.”

At that rate, the Biden administration will be spending $70,139.00 per bed according to the figure released by the department.

The Texas-based non-profit Endeavors will house migrant families who are not sent back to Mexico in seven different hotels starting in April. The funding covers COVID-19 vaccines, testing, transportation and legal representation.
