Teenager loved by all shot and killed in Richmond

Richmond- A teenage girl was murdered on Friday in Henrico County and now, police have a suspect in custody.

“A juvenile male was taken into custody early this afternoon. He is charged on petitions (juvenile procedure) for second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by juvenile, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony,” the Henrico County Police Department said on Saturday.

Lucia Whalen Bremer was an 8th grader at Quioccasin Middle School in Richmond.

On Firday, at around 4:30 p.m. while walking through her neighborhood, she was shot and killed.


Henrico Police now have the person in custody responsible for her murder. During the early afternoon hours, Henrico detectives took a juvenile male into custody after obtaining petitions for second-degree murder, possession of a fiream by juvenile, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.


The juvenile, whose identity is being withheld because of his age, will be transported, and processed at the Henrico County Sheriff’s Office.

Henrico Police’s presence cleared from Friday’s tragic incident along the 1900 block of Hickoryridge Road late last that night, however, efforts to locate the suspect did not end.

Detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night to follow up on leads provided by the community.

“The Police Division has increased patrols around the Gayton Forest West conmmunity during this investigation. On behalf of the entire Police Division, we appreciate the community support through the tips called in and to our partners with the Richmond – ATF, who assisted in the investigation,” said Lieutenant Matt Pecka. “Our thoughts are with the family, HCPS student body, and faculty during this untimely death.”

Ms. Bremer worked on her family’s farm, the Liberty Tree Farm.

“Liberty Tree Farm is saddened to report that our beloved daughter and joyful farmer, Lucia Whalen Bremer, was killed in a senseless act of gun violence,” the family said in a statement.

Bremer played soccer for the Richmond Strikers travel soccer club.
