JACKSONVILLE, FL – A 20-year-old man is in jail today after having sexual activity with a young victim.

Detectives with the St. Johns County Special Victims Unit began an investigation on March 24th into allegations that a 20-year-old engaged in sexual activity with a victim between the ages of 12-16.

“Investigative efforts led to the identification of 20-year-old Matthew Webster of Ponte Vedra Beach as the suspect,” the SJCSO said today. “On Tuesday, March 30th an arrest warrant for Webster was obtained for one count of Lewd/Lascivious Battery.”

He was arrested that day without incident.

While some of the details of this investigation are still ongoing, detectives learned Webster and the victim met through social media applications. Investigators also discovered Webster was providing “vape” paraphernalia to the juvenile during their contacts.

This case highlights the importance of parents being engaged in their children’s social media activities and question who they are having conversations with via electronic communications.
