Pensacola Bay Bridge to reopen for weekend of March 31

/

PENSACOLA, FL- Construction crews are working to repair bridge damage and return traffic to the structure the week of May 31. This photo shows a full deck that has been replaced, with the exception of the multiuse path on the outside of the structure. A decision on whether the initial reopening the week of May 31 will accommodate four lanes of traffic, or temporarily consist of a combination of two and four lanes, has not been determined. In the center, the new piles have been driven and cut at the water line in advance of installing a new trophy piece. Shown on the outside of the travel lanes are newly installed girders for the multiuse path. Restoring vehicular traffic is the priority for the construction team with completing repairs for the multiuse path to follow.
Concrete is pumped from a mixer truck, then leveled to the desired depth. The necessary cross slope is added to the new deck using what is known as a “bidwell,” which is the yellow piece of equipment shown at the top of the photo.
