COLUMBUS, OH – A Columbus police officer shot and killed an African American teenage girl who was assaulting another girl with a knife outside of a home as a scuffle between several people unfolded. Police fired a shot at the girl as she pulled a knife and attempted to stab another girl.

The girl assaulted one victim as a man kicked the victim on the ground. As the girl ran towards a second victim with a knife, a police officer shot and killed the attacker.

The man who kicked a young girl while she was on the ground yelled at police officers, “What did you do man? She’s just a kid?”

Mayor Andrew Ginther has been struggling to stay ahead of the rising rate of violent crime in Columbus since the New Year.

“The officer took action to protect another young girl from our community,” said Mayor Andrew Ginther. “A family is grieving tonight and this young 15-year-old girl is never coming home.”

This is the 62nd homicide in the city since January 1, 2021.
