BROOKLYN, NY – After beating up an Asian woman after their child killed her celebrity cat Ponzu, Julie Yvette Rodriguez, one of the alleged assailants said kids will be kids.

Ponzu was an internet celebrity cat with over 33,000 views and millions of video views. A boy tripped on the cat’s leash and injured the cat, leading to its death. Owner Chanan Aksornnan said the boy showed no remorse, did not offer an apology and started arguing with the woman.

She said she was verbally abused by the child and then assaulted by three women. Her boyfriend was also assaulted by the women and suffered facial lacerations.

“We’re sorry to hear that her cat had to die,” Rodriguez said. “It was an accident and kids will be kid. What happened was not indicative of who we are as a people, but things escalated quickly. We are sorry things played out the way it did, but this is our side of the story.”

42-year-old Evelyn Serrano of Greenpoint has been charged and more charges are pending.

Ponzu was just three years old. The video that made Ponzu a celebrity is shown below:
