OKEECHOBEE, FL – A man has been arrested for stealing pool equipment in Martin County.

49-year-old Oreste Vergel of Okeechobee initially told deputies he’s not sure what made him drive up to a home on Britt Road and steal the homeowner’s pool equipment. It was 2:40am when he parked on the side of the victim’s house, walked over to the pool storage area and helped himself.

He later said he thought it was trash, so he took it off of the homeowner’s hands. When questioned about all of the other pool equipment in his car, Vergel eluded to having a good pool equipment night in Martin County finding it all in the trash.

Detectives are now asking residents in the area of Britt Road to check their pool equipment to see if anything is missing. If so, please call our Criminal Investigations Division at 220-7060.

Oreste Vergel was charged with occupied burglary and petit theft. He’s being held on a $20,400 bond. Oreste Vergel wasn’t sure of a lot of things when he victimized Martin County citizens, but one thing is certain.
