Criminals targeting LBGTQ community using Grindr

Jeff Jones

Gridnr is a social networking dating app used by the LBGTQ community and now criminals in Atlanta are using that app to prey upon the community.

The Atlanta Police Department’s Robbery Unit warns the LGBTQ community about robberies targeting them through the dating app Grindr.

These robberies have shown similarities in the ways that were committed and the Atlanta Police Department would like to request the public’s assistance in helping to solve these crimes, as well as notify the public of steps that they can take to better protect themselves from being the victim of a crime of this type. The Atlanta Police Department would also like to request that anyone who has been victimized in a similar manner and has not reported the incident to police, please come forward to do so, to assist us in holding the perpetrators accountable.

Police said there were eight incidents since the start of the year saying the suspect takes the victim to a remote location where they produce a handgun and rob the victim.
