Suspect arrested for the murder of Salvador Sanchez

EDINBURG, TX – The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 20-year-old, Gerardo Gonzalez for the murder of 22-year-old, Salvador Sanchez.

On Monday, May 3, 2021, at approximately 10:21 p.m., the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 12000 Block of Avenida Dulce in Edinburg, Texas in reference to reports of gunshots.

Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies located blood stains on a vehicle parked on the roadway. Upon further investigation, the lifeless body of a male was found in the trunk of the car. The male, who was later identified as Salvador Sanchez, appeared to have suffered an apparent gunshot wound.


Through the course of the investigation, Gerardo Gonzalez was identified as the suspect who shot Sanchez during an altercation Monday night.

A 1st degree Murder warrant was obtained for the arrest of Gerardo Gonzalez on May 4th. Earlier this morning, Sheriff’s Investigators along with U.S. Marshals located and arrested Gonzalez in Brownsville, Texas without incident. Gerardo Gonzalez has been charged with 1st Degree Murder by Justice of the Peace Jason Pena and his bond has been set at $2,000,000 dollars.
