Fort Lauderdale Police Investigating Shooting Murder of Bret Shell

Fort Lauderdale, FL – The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, May 7, 2021, at approximately 4:50 a.m. The incident occurred in the parking lot of 630 Northwest 10th Terrace in the City of Fort Lauderdale.

Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was shot while leaving his friend’s home and walking through the parking lot to his car. As the victim was walking through the parking lot, an unknown subject began shooting at him. The Fort Lauderdale Police Department was alerted to the gunfire via a ShotSpotter notification.

The victim has been identified as Brett Shell, W/M, 07/14/1986, a resident of the City of Pompano Beach. Shell was pronounced deceased on scene by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue. No other known injuries occurred to any other victims during this incident.

Detectives are still working to determine the motive behind this homicide and are seeking the public’s assistance with gathering additional information.
