Two charged for aggravated assault

BoundBrook, N.J. – Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, and Bound Brook Borough Chief of Police Vito Bet announced the arrests of Selvin Ixtabalan-Garcia, age 21, of Church Street, Bound Brook, New Jersey, and Heiner Rivera-Ramirez, 38 of Clinton Avenue, Middlesex, New Jersey in relation to an aggravated assault that took place in Bound Brook, New Jersey.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on April 26, 2021, at approximately 5:01 p.m., Bound Brook Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting an assault in progress involving three males kicking another male in the area of East Main Street. Responding officers located a 38-year-old Bound Brook resident lying on the ground with swollen eyes bleeding from his nose and mouth.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene along with detectives from the Bound Brook Police Department to conduct an investigation.

As a result of this investigation, Heiner Rivera-Ramirez and Selvin Ixtabalan-Garcia were identified as the suspects involved in the assault. Rivera-Ramirez and Ixtabalan-Garcia were located in the area and transported to Bound Brook Police Department for questioning. Rivera-Ramirez and Ixtabalan-Garcia were arrested and charged with 2nd-degree Aggravated Assault. Both defendants were lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.
