Lightning strike on highway caused chunk of road to smash through truck window

Jeff Jones

The chance of being struck by lightning at some point in your life is 1 in 15,000. The chance of being struck by a chunk of asphalt that was thrown into the air by lightning striking nearby as drove down the road is probably one in a million.

Unfortunately, for one driver in Walton County, those odds were in their favor.

The Walton County Fire Rescue reported just after 7:30 AM on Monday that they were dispatched to a traffic crash near mile marker 81 eastbound on I-10.

Lightning struck the roadway, causing a chunk of the road to fly through the windshield of the truck. Both occupants of the vehicle were transported with injuries.
