Man facing multiple charges after causing serious crash in Toms River

TOMS RIVER, NJ – On Sunday, at approximately 12:37 PM, multiple police units were dispatched to the intersection of Vaughn Avenue and Bay Avenue for a serious motor vehicle accident. Jeffrey Loffredo, 25 of Toms River, was traveling west on Bay Avenue when he failed to stop for the red light and collided with a Honda HRV driven by Jeffrey Edgar, 51 of Toms River, who was traveling north on Vaughn Avenue with a green traffic signal.

Mr. Edgar’s vehicle flipped onto its side and collided with a Chevy Silverado, driven by Donald O’Brien, 51 of Toms River, who was stopped on Vaughn Ave for the red light.

East Dover Fire Department and Toms River Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated Mr. Edgar from his vehicle. Toms River EMS and Robert Wood Johnson MICU rendered treatment. Mr. Edgar was transported by EMS to Skyview Park Landing Zone where he was Medevaced to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment.


Mr. Loffredo was cited with Failure to Obey a Traffic Signal, Expired Driver’s License, Failure to Possess a Registration, and Failure to Possess an Insurance Card. There was no sign of driver impairment. The accident is being investigated by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Ryan Fitzgerald.
