An Annapolis man who placed a Superfecta Wheel wager in the Maryland Lottery’s Racetrax game is now rolling in the dough. The Anne Arundel County man’s long-odds wager paid off with a $51,657 prize last week.

The 25-year-old told Lottery officials he regularly plays Racetrax. He selected the Superfecta Wheel bet randomly after watching a few races at the Forest Drive Sunoco in Annapolis. The loyal fan selected a combination of four horses: the 12, 11 and 1 horses for first, second and third place finishes, followed by a 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 horse Wheel for the fourth position. A Wheel bet allows players to pick several possible horses for a position within the Superfecta wager.

On the second race of his three-race wager, the horses crossed the finish line in perfect order with the No. 6 horse placing fourth. The odds of winning with that combination is 77,565 to one.

“I saw the final results on my phone and I was just shaking,” said the winner.

The lucky player said his prize will help him get ahead. Although he doesn’t have any immediate plans for the money, he said the extra funds could help him find a nice apartment in the future.

The Lottery retailer that sold the winning ticket, Forest Drive Sunoco, earns a bonus for its lucky sale. The store located at 1207 Forest Drive will receive a $516.57 bonus from the Lottery.
