Suspect wanted for Jersey City MLK Drive murder

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating the whereabouts of the suspect wanted in connection with the death of 22-year-old Ahmad McPherson, who was fatally shot on Stegman Street off of Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City on June 5, 2021.

Tybear Miles, 25, of Jersey City, has been charged with Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3A(1)(2), a crime of the first degree; Possession of a Weapon (firearm) for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4A(1), a second-degree crime; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (firearm) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5B(1), a second-degree crime.

On Saturday, June 5, 2021, at approximately 10:05 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of gunshots fired in the area of Stegman Street and Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City. Police Officers responded to the area and found a male victim of gunshot wound(s) to the torso.


The male, later identified as Ahmad McPherson, age 22, of Jersey City, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at approximately 10:40 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be gunshot wounds to the torso and the manner of death to be homicide.

Anyone who sees Miles should not approach him, but should immediately contact police.
