1 killed, 8 injured, two critical after vehicle hits spectators in Texas mud race

Fabens, TX – A vehicle in a Texas mud race lost control and veered into a crowd, through a guard rail on Sunday. Eight people were injured including three critical. A 21-year-old man was reported dead.

This morning, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic Investigators continued their investigation, reporting a total of eight spectators who sustained injuries to include one fatality. Two victims remain in critical but stable condition, five sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and 21-year-old Willie Valadez Ramirez was pronounced deceased at a local area hospital.

On Sunday, at approximately 6:35 pm, Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 17600 block of Island Guadalupe Rd. in reference to an accident at a mud-track event. The preliminary investigation revealed one of the vehicles due to unknown reasons left the mud-track striking and breaking through a guardrail. Three other vehicles were also struck as a result of the initial crash.


Spectators of the event were injured and transported to local area hospital three in critical condition and five others with non-life-threatening injuries. No other information is available at this time the investigation remains ongoing.
