Car thieves targeting Jackson? Police say don’t leave your keys in the car

JACKSON, NJ – Car thieves could be targeting Jackson Township after two incidents reported by the Jackson Police Departments, including one grand theft auto.

On Monday June 14, 2021 at 4:06 am, Police Officer Andrew Brodzinski responded to a residence located on Highland Drive on the report of a burglary and attempted theft of a motor vehicle. The victim reported that approximately 10 minutes earlier, she believed she heard her car which was parked in her driveway start and she looked out the window and observed what appeared to be a white SUV parked at the end of her driveway.

She then observed an unknown male inside her vehicle and another walking up her driveway. The males were described as dressed all in black and wearing masks. She yelled to them and they fled to the white SUV and left the area.

She went outside and located the key to her BMW on the driveway. It was reported to the officer that the vehicle had been left unlocked with the key in the center console.


Also on this date at 5:03 am, Police Officer Matthew Buono responded to a residence located on Kingfisher Court on the report of a stolen motor vehicle. The victim reported that his 2017 Lexus RX350 had been stolen from his driveway.

The victim reported waking up earlier and seeing a vehicle with its brake lights illuminated in the street. When he later went outside, he discovered that his vehicle was stolen. Video surveillance showed what appeared to be a white SUV with a black top, possibly a Range Rover, stopped in the street. A passenger who appears to be wearing a hooded sweatshirt and face mask exits the vehicle and enters his vehicle and starts it. The car is backed down the driveway where another passenger exits the waiting SUV and gets into the Lexus before both vehicles leave the area. The victim reported to the officer that his vehicle had been left unlocked with the key inside.

Residents are reminded to remove valuables from their vehicles and lock them, even if parked in your own driveway. Do not leave the vehicle keys inside unlocked vehicles. Please call police headquarters at 732-928-1111 to report suspicious activity.
