Teen killed in crash with tractor-trailer

MILFORD, DE – On June 19, 2021, at approximately 9:40 p.m., a Toyota Camry driven by a 17-year-old female from Greenwood was traveling westbound from Milford toward Harrington on Milford Harrington Highway. A 2017 Freightliner Truck Tractor driven by a 31-year-old male from Georgetown was traveling eastbound from Harrington toward Milford on Milford Harrington Highway. The driver of the Camry attempted to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone. In doing so, the Camry entered the eastbound travel lane, directly in the path of the Freightliner. The driver of the Camry attempted to move the vehicle onto the eastbound shoulder but was unable to avoid colliding with the Freightliner. As a result, the right front of the Camry collided with the right front of the Freightliner. The force of the impact caused the truck to overturn, and it came to rest on its left side, in the middle of the two travel lanes. After impact, the Camry was redirected south and came to rest in a private yard south of the roadway.

The driver of the Camry sustained serious injuries and was transported by helicopter to an area hospital.

The 19-year-old male from Harrington was the front seat passenger in the Camry and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The driver of the Freightliner sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
