NEWARK, DE – On June 20, 2021, at about 0822 hours, Newark Police were dispatched to the 100 block of East Main Street for a report of an attempted robbery. Responding officers found that the male suspect had been detained at the scene by bystanders.
The victim, a 28 year-old female, advised that a male approached her and demanded her car keys while verbally threatening her with harm if she did not comply. She did not comply and a witness intervened and took the victim away from the area for her safety. The victim was not injured.
The suspect then approached a 64 year-old female who was entering her vehicle a short distance away. The suspect pushed the victim to the ground and demanded the keys to her vehicle. The victim yelled for help and witnesses intervened and held the suspect until police arrival. The victim suffered minor injuries that did not require medical attention.
The male suspect was identified as David Tymitz, 31, of Newark. He was taken into custody at the scene by Newark Police without incident.
Tymitz was transported to Newark Police headquarters where he was charged with two counts of Attempted Robbery First Degree. Tymitz appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and was ordered to be held in default of $60,000 cash bail. Tymitz was turned over to the custody of the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
