Man charged for robbing Popeye’s over order dispute

Bear– Delaware State Police have arrested 22-year-old Dequan Woods of Bear, DE, for the robbery of fast-food restaurant.

The incident occurred on June 25, 2021, at approximately 1:25 p.m., when troopers responded to Popeyes, located at 1957 Pulaski Hwy. Bear, DE in reference to a knife point robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined that the suspect who was also a former employee, identified as Dequan Woods, entered the business, and demanded to speak to the manager regarding money Woods believed he was owed.

After the manager denied Woods was owed any money. Woods jumped over the front counter and removed money from the cash register. The manager confronted Woods who in turn displayed a large a cutting instrument. Woods then ran to his vehicle in the parking lot with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the area. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.


On June 30, 2021, troopers located Woods at his residence and took him into custody without incident. Woods was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following:

  • Robbery 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony

Woods was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $43,000 unsecured bond.
