Delaware fugitives captured in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – On June 30, 2021, a man and woman, both wanted fugitives from Delaware, were arrested after refusing to surrender to law enforcement.

At 7:37 am, patrol officers responded to the 100-north block of Georgia Avenue to assist United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force members who were attempting to arrest Rahiem Jackson and Maya Hairston. Jackson was wanted for weapons offense. Hairston was wanted for charges stemming from a vehicle pursuit that she was involved in with law enforcement.Jackson and Hairston refused commands to exit the residence.

Due to the nature of the charges and prior interactions with law enforcement, Task Force members established a perimeter. The Atlantic City Police Department Emergency Response Team was activated consisting of the SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, and Bomb Squad.After almost of two hours of talking to members of the Crisis Negotiation Team, Hairston surrendered and was taken into custody.


Negotiators attempted to engage Jackson for several more hours without success. At approximately 1:15 pm, SWAT Team members entered the residence and Jackson was located hiding under the kitchen sink. He was taken into custody without incident.

The Atlantic City Fire Department, Exceptional Medical Transportation of Atlantic City, and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office assisted in this investigation. The roadways surrounding the area were closed to vehicle. Residents in the immediate area were evacuated or told to remain in their home.

“The teamwork displayed by all of the first responders was incredible,” said Interim Officer in Charge James A. Sarkos. “Two dangerous fugitives were removed from the streets without any injuries to law enforcement or the suspects. This is a great example of the ongoing working relationships and collaborations the ACPD has with all of our public safety partners.”

ARRESTED:

Rahiem Jackson, 23, of Dover, DE.

CHARGES: Fugitive of justice.

ARRESTED: Maya Hairston, 24, of Dover, DE.

CHARGES: Fugitive of justice.

Jackson and Hairston have been remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting extraction to Delaware. Charges are mere accusations, and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
