Food delivery drive carjacked in Newark

NEWARK, NJ – Newark Police are searching for suspect wanted for the carjacking of a food delivery driver on Thursday.

Police responded to a call about a carjacking around 10:40 a.m. in the 100 block of South 9th Street on July 1, 2021. The victim told officers that she left the vehicle running to retrieve groceries from the trunk when an unknown male jumped into the front seat. She opened the driver’s side door and tried to stop him, but fell to the ground as he drove off heading north on South 9th Street towards Central Avenue.

The suspect, a Black male, is described as 5’7” to 5’10’’ with a thin build and medium brown complexion. He was wearing a pink wave cap, black jeans, and a shirt with tan-colored shoes. The vehicle was recovered on the same day, in the area of North 5th Street.


While detectives investigate this incident and seek the public’s help with identifying this suspect, Director O’Hara urges anyone with information about the individual to call the Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
