If you were one of the millions of President Trump supporters hoping to get censorship-free social media in the form of former Trump aide Jason Miller’s new “GETTR” social media app, you might want to reconsider it. That’s because on the first day of operation, Miller’s new social media platform was hacked.
A hacker targeting Trump loyalists defaced the profile page of several high-profile Trumpsters on day one, Sunday. The attack targeted GETTR verified users, who are mostly other former Trump aides. Steve Bannon, Mike Pompeo, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Newsmax were among those hacked and defaced and replaced with “@JubaBaghdad was here 🙂 ^^ free palestine ^^.”
The hacking occurred at approximately 8:30 am on Sunday and accounts were restored an hour and a half later.
Miller wore the hacking of his new social media platform as a badge of honor. The hacker claiming responsibility said it took him less than twenty minutes and mocked the security of the new social media platform.
“You know you’re shaking things up when they come after you. The problem was detected and sealed in a matter of minutes, and all the intruder was able to accomplish was to change a few user names,” he said in an interview “The situation has been rectified and we’ve already had more than half a million users sign up for our exciting new platform!”
500,000 users have signed up for the service, Miller alleges. Insider reported that the platform was rampant with pornographic images and spam comments, so it’s uncertain how many of the half-million users are on the app simply to troll Trump supporters.
So if you’re thinking about getting GETTR, you might want to wait…or at least don’t give the app any of your private information.
