Teen girl in critical condition after struck by hit and run driver while riding her scooter

COLUMBUS, OH – A teenage girl is fighting for her life after the driver of a light sedan struck her and fled the scene while she was riding her scooter near E. Main and Carpenter.

“On Friday, July 2, 2021, at 11:27 pm, a female juvenile (16 years old) was riding an electric-powered scooter near E. Main St. & Carpenter St. At this same time, an unidentified vehicle was eastbound on E. Main St. approaching the same intersection,” Columbus police reported.

The unidentified vehicle then went left-of-center, accelerating to pass two other vehicles, and crossed into the westbound curb lane, striking the teen.

She suffered severe injuries and was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where she remains in critical, life-threatening condition. The suspect vehicle did not stop or attempt to render aid to the injured juvenile and fled the scene.


The vehicle was last seen accelerating eastbound on E. Main St., passing Lilley Ave. and continuing eastbound.CPD’s Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene & initiated an investigation which is ongoing. The vehicle being sought in this case is described as a lighter grey 2-door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Camaro, with dark tinted windows, loud exhaust and a black hardtop.
