Boca Raton – On Thursday, July 8, 2021 at approximately 9:15 p.m., the Boca Raton Police responded to a report of a suspicious person with a knife near Barnes & Noble at 1400 W Glades Road (University Commons). Two officers arrived on the scene and made contact with 29-year-old Jordan Thompson outside the bookstore.

While speaking with Thompson, he began approaching officers aggressively while armed with a knife. Officers attempted to verbally de-escalate and gave commands for Thompson to drop the weapon. Thompson continued to hold the knife and was tasered by one officer. The taser was ineffective and at that time, Thompson lunged at the officers with a knife in hand. He was then shot multiple times by the other officer. Both officers rendered aid until Boca Raton Fire Rescue arrived on the scene.

Thompson was transported to Delray Medical Center in critical condition. Jordan Thompson is charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) responded to the scene and is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The two officers have been placed on Critical Incident Leave.
