BOSTON, MA – A Boston police officer is recovering in the hospital after being struck last night by a drunk driver.

At about 12:58 AM on Sunday July 11, 2021, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a call for a motor vehicle crash involving a BPD cruiser in the area of 1885 Columbus Avenue in Roxbury.

Upon arrival, officers located a Boston Police Officer laying on the ground next to his heavily damaged department motor vehicle. The officer was quickly transported by Boston EMS to a local area hospital for treatment of injuries that are considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.

Officers then spoke to the operator of the second motor vehicle involved in the crash, later identified as Louis Wallace, 33, of Cambridge, who stated that he had been traveling outbound on Columbus Avenue while the police vehicle was traveling inbound when the crash occurred.

The operator could not provide any reason for the collision. As he spoke to the officers on the scene, he appeared very unsteady on his feet while slurring his words. Officers also detected a strong smell of alcohol. He was later placed in custody without incident.

The suspect will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol (2nd Offense), and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
