Democrats want women to be drafted into military service as new bill advances

by Jessica Woods

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democrats, in search of social equality, have advanced a bill that would require women to be included in the Selective Service System to be draft-eligible should they be needed to fight a future war.

Senate Armed Services Chairman Jack Reed drafted a bill that would require women to join men should there be a need for military conscription. The new bill states “all Americans” would be required to register for the Selective Service and obtain a draft card.

Women are now eligible for combat duty. In 2015, the Pentagon approved women having combat roles in the military.

Not all Democrats are on board with the mandatory draft registration for women. Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, a Democrat has sponsored a bill to completely eliminate the draft.
