Teen indicted for beating, strangling, murdering girlfriend

BUFFALO, NY – Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 19-year-old Mushagdusa R. Nankumba of Buffalo was arraigned this morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class “A-I” felony).  

The defendant is accused of killing his girlfriend, 18-year-old Larrinsha Johnson, by beating and strangling the victim inside a vehicle at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park during the early morning of Saturday, April 17, 2021. The Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the victim died from asphyxia due to strangulation.

Nankumba is scheduled to return on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. for a pre-trial conference. He continues to remain held without bail.

DA Flynn commends Detective Sergeant Amy Jo Frankel, Office Alexander Brennan and Officer Scott Aldinger of the Buffalo Police Department for their work in the investigation.


The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ryan D. Haggerty of the Homicide Bureau and Chief Justin H. Caldwell of the Buffalo City Court Bureau.
