INDIANAPOLIS-Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide Detectives arrested man for his alleged involvement in Friday’s early morning homicide investigation.

On Friday, July 30, 2021, just after 4:30 a.m., IMPD East District officers were dispatched to 7400 E. 21st Street on a report of an unresponsive person located in a nearby wooded area. When officers arrived, they located an unresponsive adult female with undisclosed injuries to her body. Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) responded and unfortunately pronounced the female victim deceased.

The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact cause and manner of death. The MCCO will release the name of the decedent once proper next-of-kin notification has been made.

IMPD Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation. Preliminary information received, led detectives to believe a male involved in the incident was still in a nearby hotel room. IMPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) assisted detectives in detaining the male. The male, later identified as 33-year-old Marcus Garvin, was located and detained without further incident.

Detectives continued to review evidence and then arrested Marcus Garvin later in the day for his role in the death of the female. The Marion County Prosecutors Office will review the case and make a final charging decision.
