Homicide case opened after two guns found during police investigation in Albany shooting

ALBANY, NY – A shooting incident that occurred Sunday evening on Catherine Street is now being investigated as a homicide.

On Sunday, August 1, 2021 at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers responded to the area of Catherine and Elizabeth Streets for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located evidence consistent with gunshots and began to conduct an investigation.

Shortly after the call, staff from Albany Medical Center Hospital also notified police that a 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old man both walked into the emergency room at Albany Medical Center Hospital with gunshot wounds to their torsos. 19-year-old, Jordan Latimer of Albany, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.


The 22-year-old victim remains at the hospital and is listed in critical condition. A preliminary investigation into the incident has determined that the victims and the suspects are known to each other. The circumstances surrounding the shooting incident still remain under investigation. In addition, Albany police officers were able to recover two loaded handguns during the course of the investigation. Nasier Young, 24, of Albany, was found to be in possession of two loaded 9mm handguns while at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Young was taken into custody and subsequently charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd. He was arraigned in Albany Criminal Court and released on $50,000 bail.
