Stuart police car stopped as officer helped disabled motorist struck by drunk driver

STUART, FL – On Wednesday, while assisting a disabled motorist on the Roosevelt Bridge, Corporal Cernuto’s vehicle was struck by another vehicle. Thankfully, no one was injured.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Cpl. Cernuto’s patrol vehicle was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and transported to Martin County Jail. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one person was killed every 52 minutes in a drunk driving crash on our nation’s roads in 2019. That’s a total of 10,142 people who died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes in one year.
