Man tells police he ‘likes young girls’ after throwing water on 7-year-old girl at splash pad

DeBary’s, FL – Volusia County deputies arrested 27-year-old Cameron Lyons (DOB 5/12/1994) after he opened a water bottle and threw liquid at a 7-year-old girl at the splash pad at DeBary’s Community Park.

Lyons left the park after he was confronted by parents, but deputies caught up with him down the road.

Lyons was taken into custody on a charge of child abuse without great harm. While Lyons is also facing a recent, unrelated charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a July 26 domestic incident, he is not accused of any other crimes connected to yesterday’s encounter at the splash pad. However, in conversation with deputies, Lyons made several odd statements about liking young girls and enjoying playing games with them.

While Lyons was detained in the holding cell at the Sheriff’s Office district office in DeBary, deputies had to interrupt and restrain him because he was actively pleasuring himself in the cell.

The Sheriff’s Office is sharing this information as a precaution and to ensure parents are informed. Anyone who may have information to report is asked to contact the DeBary district office at 386-668-3830 or the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 386-248-1777.
