South American variant of COVID-19 discovered in Texas as migrants continue to pour in

HOUSTON, TEXAS – Tens of thousands of illegal migrants from South and Central America are crossing the U.S. border with Mexico each week and now, they are bringing with them a new strain of COVID-19.

This week, a hospital in Houston recorded the first lab-confirmed case of the South American lambda variant. The lambda variant was discovered in December 2020 and it has some scientists concerned.

About three thousand cases of the lambda variant have been discovered to date in America.
