When Governor Murphy returns from Italy, he has some explaining to do

TRENTON, NJ – OPINION – Is there something New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy isn’t telling the residents of New Jersey? Today he once again boasted about having 6 million people in the state with at least their first vaccination shot. 5.47 million of those are now fully vaccinated.

He also reminded us today that 1.2 million New Jerseyans have been tested positive for COVID-19 over the past year.

That would mean nearly 7 million of the state’s 9.28 million are either vaccinated or could be carrying the COVID-19 antibodies.

Yet, today, the CDC and the state of New Jersey are warning that New Jersey is a sate with a high rate of COVID-19 transmission.

On Saturday, 71,000 people crammed together into Met Life Stadium to watch the New York Jets beat the New York Giants 12-7.

Like many things during the pandemic in New Jersey, the math, science and numbers aren’t adding up to the messaging being delivered by the state and federal government health agencies.

Something isn’t right. Something is either not working, or the public isn’t being told the full truth about what is going on with the virus, the mutations and the efficacy of the vaccine, because if 7 out of 9 people are vaccinated or carrying natural antibodies, that leaves a population of 2.28 million New Jerseyans, mostly children that are unvaccinated.

We can’t ask the Governor. Murphy hightailed it out of the U.S. last week en route to spend time with his family in his $7 million Italian villa.

The situation out there is dire, the governor says. He’s considering implementing indoor masking, business closures and another lockdown. Children have to wear facemasks to school. The pandemic has returned.

Or has it?

One thing we do know is that Phil Murphy has an election to win in November and the return of the pandemic also brings back the return of the mail-in ballot.

But, first, let’s take a look at this current round of the pandemic. Below is a chart released to day of cumulative cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The next chart highlights the “third wave” of the pandemic currently upon us due to the delta variant strain.

The final chart is the day to day COVID-19 death chart.

Taking those three charts, we feel that Governor Murphy has some real explaining to do about the truth behind the current wave of COVID-19 and why he’s causing panic in a population that is, for the most part, vaccinated, instead of worrying about his vaccine inequity which has shortchanged the inner city, black and Latino communities which are among the highest population of unvaccinated New Jerseyans.
