Second bombing reported in Kabul: Hotel housing westerners targeted

A second bombing has been reported in Kabul, this time at the Baron Hotel, the destination for many foreign nationals processing to depart Afghanistan.

U.S. Defense Department Spokesman John Kirby reported, “We can confirm that the explosion at the Abbey Gate was the result of a complex attack that resulted in a number of US & civilian casualties. We can also confirm at least one other explosion at or near the Baron Hotel, a short distance from Abbey Gate. We will continue to update.”


The bombing at the hotel rocked the city according to eyewitness accounts.

Three U.S. Marines have been confirmed wounded in the bombing and ensuing firefight at the Kabul Airport earlier in the evening.

The Baron Hotel – Kabul is a 160 room luxury hotel that markets itself as safe and secure housing in Kabul. It is located less than a mile from Kabul Aiport.
