New Jersey officer shot in shootout with man wanted for shooting of PA woman

Camden N.J. – The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a police-involved shooting, that resulted from the arrest of Delaware County, PA resident Arthur Disanto, 41, in Gloucester County, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer.

Disanto, who was wanted for allegedly shooting a woman in Media, PA in July, attempted to evade capture in Folcroft, PA Monday night, August 23. He fled to Deptford, NJ, where he exchanged gunfire with police.

An officer with the Monroe Township Police Department was struck. The officer has been treated and released from the hospital.


Disanto was also struck three times by gunfire and transported to Cooper Medical Center where he remains in critical but stable condition.

This investigation is being conducted pursuant to Attorney General Directive 2019-4, which provides clear standards and procedures for conducting such investigations. In accordance with Directive 2019-4, the Attorney General Office of Public Integrity & Accountability has appointed the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office as Independent Prosecutor. The CCPO’s Major Crime’s Unit and Special Prosecutions Unit will now continue the investigation of both the use of force matter and the potential underlying criminal charges.
