BLOOMFIELD, NJ – A gas station owner in Bloomfield is being thrashed online today after he locked out customers stranded on a narrow ledge as floodwaters rose around them.
The incident happened as Tropical Storm Ida dumped between 9 inches and one foot of rainwater across North Jersey. The owner of the Shell gas station on Watchung Avenue. The owner locked the door and prevented stranded customers from getting inside. They had nowhere to go. Rising floodwaters outside were nearly two feet deep at the time.
Now, residents are saying they’ll never go to the store again after a video was published to Facebook.
An employee inside the station said he was ordered by his boss to not let anyone inside for the safety of himself and his customers.
