3 Migrants Rescued by Agents Over the Weekend

OCOTILLO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector rescued three undocumented individuals in three separate events over the weekend in the Jacumba Wilderness region. 



The first incident occurred on Friday morning, at approximately 8 a.m., when El Centro Sector Dispatch notified El Centro Station of a distress call made by an individual who illegally crossed into the United States. The undocumented individual stated he was vomiting and in need of help. The individual provided his last known GPS coordinates and a brief description of his surrounding area.



Agents working in the area were notified of the distress call and they responded to the location to begin searching for the individual. El Centro Sector’s Border Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) agents also responded to assist in the search.



At approximately 9 a.m., BORSTAR agents located the individual, approximately .25 miles north of the U.S./Mexico border. A welfare check conducted of the individual found that he was severely dehydrated and required intravenous therapy (IV). After administering an IV, BORSTAR agents determined that the individual did not need additional treatment.



The second incident occurred Sunday morning, at approximately 9:45 a.m., when Sector Dispatch notified El Centro station of an individual who illegally crossed into the United States through the mountains and was in distress. The undocumented individual was able to provide his last known GPS coordinates and a brief description of the surrounding area.



Agents performing their assigned duties in the area were notified of the distress call and they responded to the location to begin searching for the individual. At approximately 10:45 a.m., agents located the individual, approximately 1.8 miles north of the U.S./Mexico border.



The third incident occurred early Monday morning at approximately 12:52 a.m., when Sector Dispatch notified El Centro Station of a lost individual who illegally crossed into the United States. The undocumented individual was able to provide her last known GPS coordinates and a brief description of her surrounding area.



Agents performing their assigned duties in the area were notified of the lost individual and they responded to the location to begin searching for the individual. At approximately 2:07 a.m., agents located the individual, approximately 1.5 miles north of the U.S. Mexico border.



Agents conducted welfare checks of all three individuals. All individuals were safely escorted back to the vehicle to be transported to the El Centro Sector Processing Center to be medically evaluated.



All the individuals of each incident will be processed accordingly.



Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 336 individuals lost or in distress.
