Man slashed by machete during argument at New Jersey Walmart, suspect fled

KEARNY, NJ – Kearny police report that at 10:27 a.m. today, they received a 911 call reporting an assault at the Walmart store at 150 Harrison Ave. in Kearny. Officers located an adult male victim inside the store who sustained a deep laceration to the back of his head. Preliminary information indicates that the victim was involved in an argument with another adult man who then struck the victim in the head with a machete.

The suspect fled the store before police arrived. The victim was transported by EMS to University Hospital, Newark. His condition has not yet been released.

Detectives and officers are still at the scene developing information. There is no information to indicate that there is a threat to the community at large. We will provide an update when we have more information.
