Motorcyclist killed in crash on Silver Spring Road

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle that occurred Sunday afternoon, September 26, in Silver Spring.   

At approximately 2:25 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of New Hampshire Ave. and Northampton Dr. for the report of a collision.     The preliminary investigation has revealed that the operator of a 2015 BMW S 1000 RR motorcycle was traveling southbound on New Hampshire Ave., approaching Northampton Dr. The driver of a Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on New Hampshire Ave., making a left turn onto Northampton Dr. The motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle after striking the vehicle in the southbound lane of New Hampshire Ave.    

The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival. The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.    The name of the deceased will be released following proper notification of family. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
