CCW holder shoots and kills assailant, but also shot, in critical condition

COLUMBUS, OH – On Wednesday, October 6, 2021, at 11:32 pm, Columbus Police Officers were called to the 600 block of S. Lazelle St. on a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The first victim, a 36-year-old male, was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. The decedent, a 32-year-old male, was also to be transported Grant Medical Center, also in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased at 11:51 pm.

The first victim made a statement prior to being taken to surgery. The first victim, a CCW permit holder, stated the decedent approached him and shot him in the leg. The first victim drew his own weapon and the two men exchanged gunfire. During this exchange, the decedent was fatally wounded.


Two handguns were recovered at the scene.

The decedent’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. No charges have been filed against the first victim. This case will be forwarded to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s office for review.
