Oakland police tell women, lock your doors after home invasion, rape as crime rises

OAKLAND, CA – Between October 1st and October 7th, Oakland Police reported five people were shot and killed, marking a sharp increase in homicides across the city this year. Robberies in Oakland are up by 15%. Now, police are reminding women in the city to lock their doors after two women were victims of a home invasion and one was raped.

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a home invasion and sexual assault in the Redwood Heights Neighborhood. The incident happened today just before 4:00 AM. The suspect entered the residence through an unlocked window. The man approached two victims who were asleep and demanded money. The suspect sexually assaulted one victim before leaving the residence.

This appears to be a random act of violence. OPD needs your help solving this case. The suspect is described as a male in his 20’s, 5’10”, thin build, black mask, dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, and dark pants.

• Install an alarm and/or video surveillance system.

• Maintain well-lit porches and driveways.
