VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL – Yesterday, deputies located and arrested a man who approached a 10-year-old girl after she got off the school bus in the Orange City area and asked her to get in his car.

The defendant, 60-year-old Daniel V. Turner (DOB 4/9/1961), is charged with aggravated stalking of a minor and attempting to lure or entice a child.

Deputies responded to the area of West Minnesota Avenue and Spring Hollow Drive, Orange City, around 5:15 p.m. Friday after other drivers witnessed what was happening and intervened.

The 10-year-old told deputies the suspect pulled up to her in his car and asked her to get in, explaining that was not a pervert, or weird, and that he could take care of her. She told him no thanks and kept walking, and two other motorists stopped to check on her and contact law enforcement.

With a detailed suspect and vehicle description, deputies located Turner at a home on nearby Jetske Circle, Orange City, and took him into custody at the conclusion of the investigation.

“This is a good opportunity to talk to your kids about how to handle encounters like this – and a great example of a community looking out for its children,” the VCSO said.
