One shot, suspect in custody after shooting at Ocean Reef Resort

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – One person is in custody after an investigation into a shooting at the Ocean Reef Resort at 7100 North Ocean Blvd.

Officers were called for a report of gunshots around 11:30 pm. One person was located with injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover. The subject fled the scene and was identified by investigators as Jamie Lee Pickett, 39, of Wadesboro, NC, shortly after the incident. The investigation indicates the shooting began as a domestic situation between Pickett and another person and the victim attempted to intervene.

Pickett was taken into custody by South Carolina Highway Patrol after being involved in a traffic collision just north of the city. He is currently in custody at J Reuben Long for charges stemming from the traffic crash.


Pickett will be charged with Attempted Murder, Discharging Firearms into a Dwelling, Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime.
