DEL RIO, Texas – A South Texas man was sentenced Oct. 6 to 235 months in prison for causing serious bodily injury to a noncitizen.
Special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Eagle Pass office conducted the investigation with the assistance of U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) Del Rio Sector and Maverick County Sheriff’s Office.
Jorge Estrada Torres, 34, from Quemado, Texas, also was ordered to serve three years supervised release after completing his sentence. Torres pleaded guilty June 1.
According to court documents, on Oct. 10, 2019, Torres was overseeing a group of noncitizens inside a Quemado residence when a shooting occurred. The investigation revealed that Torres shot a Honduran man in the abdomen area. The victim underwent emergency surgery and survived the incident.
Torres remains in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined in the near future.
Assistant U.S. Attorney James Ward, of the Western District of Texas, is prosecuting the case.
