Clifton man charged for sexually assaulting woman since she was 12

CLIFTON, NJ –  Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces the arrest of Corey Ervin, 44 years old, from Clifton, New Jersey. Ervin was arrested on October 18, 2021, after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

Ervin is charged with one count of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, two counts of second-degree Sexual Assault, one count of third-degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact, and one count of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

On September 8, 2021, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office received information from the Division of Child Protection and Permanency regarding an 18-year-old victim who disclosed being sexually assaulted by Ervin since the age of 12. The victim disclosed being assaulted by Ervin at a residence in Paterson and in a motor vehicle. During the investigation, Prosecutor’s Office detectives interviewed the victim and multiple witnesses resulting in Ervin’s arrest.


The sentencing exposure on first degree Aggravated Sexual Assault is ten to twenty years in New Jersey State Prison, with 85% of the sentence to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act; on second degree Sexual Assault it is five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison with 85% of the sentence to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act; on third degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact it is three to five years in New Jersey State Prison; and on second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child it is five to ten years in New Jersey State Prison.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion for pretrial detention and is asking that Ervin be detained in the Passaic County Jail pending the resolution of the case. The detention motion will be scheduled before a Superior Court Judge on a date and time to be determined by the Court. A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite the accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
